Sandhills Day Nursery is an outstanding childcare provider

The journey of Sandhills, Wolverhampton

Sandhills, Wolverhampton started life as a derelict barn situated on land that was Jays Farm. The idyllic spot was chosen for the seventh Sandhills branch as it perfectly lent itself to support our vision of a Reggio Emilia inspired setting, learning through nature and the wider environment.

Work began in September 2017, with the ground floor walls fully taking shape by the beginning of November. By then the dimensions of the rooms were clear to see and things were beginning to take shape.

A few weeks later the first floor was completed and the roof went on. By December the windows and doors were in and the building was finally watertight – then work on the interior and classroom could begin!

By January 2018 the walls were plastered and the beautiful oak cladding had begun to be added to the outer walls. The grounds were then being prepared to provide the sweeping private driveway down to the Nursery and car park, giving staff and parents a safe place to park their cars and access Nursery away from Springhill Lane.

Therefore, although Sandhills Wolverhampton is a new building the majority of the children and the staff transferred across with us ready for our opening on Monday 25th March 2019, were not new.

“All staff are passionate and knowledgeable about the work they do. The staff show enthusiasm and an excellent understanding of how children learn, which enables all children to thrive in this vibrant and nurturing nursery. Staff demonstrate excellent questioning skills that encourage children to discuss their learning and this develops their understanding and knowledge further:” – Taken from Sandhills Day Nursery, Codsall Ofsted Report

Despite all of the apprehension, staff made the transition very smooth for everyone concerned and the children settled well into their new setting. Children have fully embraced the new outdoor areas and we are looking forward to transforming the final piece of land into a ‘Back to Nature’ area with a forest school, music, water, amphitheatre, trim trail plus lots more.

We continue to welcome new children to our beautiful idyllic setting and we are all looking forward as the sixth branch of Sandhills, grows and as we continue to fill our ‘Home from Home’ Reggio Emilia inspired environment with awe and wonder.
